How to Charge a Scissor Lift
There is a great ease when using a scissor lift, because the convenience of working and the lift basket's safety gives peace of mind while trying to carry out tasks that could have otherwise required utilizing the rung of a ladder. The safety risks involved with this specific machinery make it the best choice for completing tasks from heights.
Nearly all scissor lifts are powered electrically by batteries which have been mounted directly onto the machinery. These batteries will need to be charged after a long shift or after sitting for extended periods without use. It is an easy task to charge the batteries. This can be done without any specialized equipment or tools and requires no heavy labor.
The machine needs to be parked near an electrical output so as to prepare the scissor lift for charging. This charging area should also be in a well-ventilated place. Next, in order to prevent another operator from driving away with the lift plugged in, press the emergency shut-off switch. The emergency shut off switch is the big red button found inside the lift basket, near the charger or the control box. Find the battery charger on the base of the lift on the right side. Often, older units will have the charger mounted on the rear of the lift.
Next, plug the charger into the AC extension cord. Be sure you are charging in an area that is well ventilated and after that plug the extension cord into an electrical outlet. So as to prevent accidental damage from being run over, the length of the electrical cord on the battery charger is intentionally short. This is because if any excess length were to drop out of the battery charger storage area when in use, extreme danger can likely happen.
