Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to create an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile which is ideal for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator would have to move the lift itself if he or she needs to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly designed for surfaces which are not even. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through difficult and muddy terrain without problems.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to control the boom. The controls work with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled units. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is important to note that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
