The Liebherr family business was created in the year 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company initially gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was noted for its affordability and ease of assembly. It was upon this invention that the company's foundation flourished under. Nowadays, Liebherr has grown to become among the top manufacturers within the field of construction machines. The business has also gained the reputation of being the accredited supplier of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in different fields. The company has currently become a "Group" working in every continent with over 130 companies and over 35,000 workers across the world.
The Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units so as to guarantee a manageable operating size. These individual units operate independently. This set up enables the business the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. As well, having so many individual company units also keeps customer service running at an optimum level and ensures customer proximity.
The divisional control companies deal with the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently encompasses ten different product divisions.
Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by members of the Liebherr family. Now, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Since 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation like: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These family members have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all around the world.
Hans Liebherr began this quest during the year 1949, with his first company in the tiny South-German town of Kirchdorf/Iller. These days, Kirchdorf is among more than 20 major manufacturing sites of the Liebherr Group. They employ more than 1400 people in that particular workforce and could average an annual output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators. The company has enjoyed diversity and immense growth since it first opened its doors. The Liebherr Group continues to remain very committed to implementing and making innovative designs. They have earned a positive and successful place within the material handling industry.
